Skipwith Parish Council
Skipwith
Skipwith is a small picturesque village that lies approximately ten miles south of York. It is surrounded by Skipwith Common, an outstanding nature reserve and designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, and one of the last remaining areas of lowland heath in the north of the England.
The village green and pond feature at the entrance to the village, leading down Main Street to the historic church of St. Helen that dates back to approximately 960AD.
Although a relatively small Parish, Skipwith has a wealth of land and buildings with a history that dates back to the Doomsday book, where it is mentioned as ‘Schiperwic’.
