Allotment Gardens

Allotment Gardens

Situated in a quiet corner of the village alongside the common lie the Parish Council’s Allotment Gardens. Bordered by large oak trees on the eastern boundary and a ridge of Corsican pines on the west, there are 10 allotments of varying size currently in use, enthusiastically gardened by people living in the village and nearby parishes. The plots vary in size, ranging from almost 800 mdown to about 150 m2. Fruits and vegetables of all kinds can be found growing there. The allotment garden tenants can erect a shed on their garden if they wish and several have done so. The pretty surroundings are home to a variety of wildlife, with several species of birds and wild animals on the nearby common adding interest to the tranquil environment. There’s no mains water supply on site, but the Parish Council has recently installed a water tank for the gardeners (those who wish to use this facility subscribe to and organise the provision of water for the tank).

There is also an Allotment Gardens Policy (updated in 2024) which can be made available with a draft tenancy agreement to prospective tenants.

Rents are very reasonable and gardens are banded into 2 tiers:

  • Tier 1 for the 3 large gardens (£66.50 p.a.)
  • Tier 2 for the other, smaller gardens (£33.50 p.a.) in 2024.

Enquiries about our Allotment Gardens are always welcome. Should you be interested in becoming a tenant, please make your enquiry to the Parish Clerk in the first instance. Occasionally applicants may have to go on our waiting list.
