Tree felling on Back Common
Mark Hewitt, the conservation lead for Escrick Park Estate, attended the parish council meeting. He explained that the Estate, with help from the Forestry Commission, will be undertaking work to improve the health of Back Common during October if the weather is appropriate. The work will involve heavy machinery to fell trees. Temporary log stacks and large vehicles to transport the logs will be in operation until the end of the year. Restrictions to car parking and footpaths will be signed.
Community Speedwatch
Skipwith now has a Community Speedwatch team. Community Speedwatch is a police initiative to help communities increase road safety by reducing speeds. The team of volunteers will be using a radar gun to monitor speeds and reporting details of speeding vehicles to the police who will contact the owners of the offending vehicles. The more volunteers there are, the more often the team can monitor speeds. If you are interested in volunteering, please email parishclerk@skipwithpc.org.uk.
Skipwith village green and Town End pond
One of the trees on the village green has died and is scheduled to be removed in October. A replacement Christmas tree will be planted in its place. These works will involve a tree surgeon and electrician. Work should also be taking place in October to clear the pond with an excavator. Please be careful around this area while these works are taking place.
Recreation area
The PC is continuing to approach contractors for quotes to develop the recreation area. Although this is a large project for the PC it is relatively small scale for contractors. As a result, obtaining quotes is progressing more slowly than hoped.
