Brief Guide to Planning
Most planning applications in Skipwith are determined by North Yorkshire Council.
Skipwith Parish Council, as a statutory consultee, is asked to comment on all planning applications within the Parish.
North Yorkshire Council must take into account, but not necessarily follow, the views or recommendations of the Parish Council.
The Parish Council is consulted for its local knowledge but does not determine a Planning Application. The role of North Yorkshire Planning and Regulatory Functions Committee is to exercise the County Council’s powers and duties as a development control authority to deal with all planning applications and matters relating to monitoring, review and enforcement of planning control which are for the County Council to determine.

Village Design Statement
In 2008, Selby District Council worked with representatives from Skipwith to produce a Village Design Statement (VDS).
The purpose of the VDS is to document the character and features of the village to help to ensure that any developments (large or small) are carried out sympathetically.
The VDS is now part of the planning process and it should be taken into consideration during any planning applications.
